The term "Herbal substance" refers to various forms of plant matter, commonly applied as key components of herbal remedies or plant-based medications.
Herbal substances come from plants and can be used in a range of different medicinal and therapeutic products. The European Medicines Agency define herbal substances as “whole, fragmented or cut plants, plant parts, algae, fungi, lichen in an unprocessed, usually dried form, but sometimes fresh”.
Is medical cannabis a "herbal substance"?
Yes, cannabis-based medicines can be classed as "herbal substances". Medical cannabis can come as dried cannabis flower, cannabis oil, or other forms of extracts from the cannabis plant. All fall under the definition of "herbal substance".
